Lower level was a pedestrian bridge and upper was an old railroad bridge. Automobiles used this bridge until 1939. Trains stopped using the bridge in 1988. This bridge offered multiple forms of transportation access through the years. Postmarked August 15, 1919. Divided back postcard.Printed on front: 'Tennessee River Bridge, Sheffield, Ala.' Printed on back: 'The Bridge Over Tenn. River At Sheffield, Ala. On Jackson Military Highway. Over this bridge passes the Automobile travel from the North, East and Middlewest, to gulfcoast, New Orleans, Texas and Pacific Ocean. The scenery from this bridge is famous. Jackson's Military Road crossed immediately below, and the Mussel Shoals Power Dam site is just above this bridge. The only wagon bridge across the river west of Chattanooga, Tenn. Many automobile crossed here in the Glidden Tours. Published By J. B. Blalock, Druggist, Sheffield, Ala. Made in U. S. A., C. T.
