These images are photographs used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 3rd edition, 2013, depicting the history of the city and the university. From page 397: Auburn's tense 19-15 loss to LSU was upstaged by a barnburning across the street from Jordan-Hare Stadium on September 21, 1996. As one sportswriter put it, the 85,214 in attendance represented "the largest number of people to ever watch a fire in the state of Alabama." ... Authorities blamed the fire on an unknown careless tailgater, who moved a barbecue grill against the side of the Sports Arena to avoid rain. Photo source: Glomerata, Auburn University Archives. |
