Jenks (bull dog and everybody's pet, belonging to M.F.S.), Big Deacon (dog belonging to Eugene), and J.D. Perdue (dog belonging to Eugene). Shortly after this picture was taken, Eugene B. Sledge enlisted in the Marine Corps and fought in the battles of Peleliu and Okinawa.
