Summary:This is the family of Eugene B. Sledge. The picture was taken in August 1942 in Mobile, Alabama, while Eugene's brother Edward Sledge, Jr., was home on leave from the Army. Pictured from left to right are Dr. E.S. Sledge, Mrs. E.S. Sledge (Mary Frank Sturdivant), Eugene Bondurant Sledge, Lt. Edward Simmons Sledge Jr., Mrs. C. Wooding Wynn (Octavia Sturdivant), Capt. Jenks (bull dog and everybody's pet, belonging to M.F.S.), Big Deacon (dog belonging to Eugene), and J.D. Perdue (dog belonging to Eugene). Shortly after this picture was taken, Eugene B. Sledge enlisted in the Marine Corps and fought in the battles of Peleliu and Okinawa.
