Description
Summary:During the Civil War, Francis McDade Danielly was a member of the 14th Alabama Infantry, Company K. In this letter, presumably written in the summer of 1862, Elizabeth writes about her father's crops, her commitment to the Confederate cause, and her fear that Danielly was killed in a recent battle (possibly a reference to the Seven Days' Battles). In one passage, she assures Danielly that their children remember him, and hopes that God will protect him and allow him to "return home to your fireside & little ones." "They do think so much of you even down to the baby has not forgot you," she writes. "They talk about their Pa all the time & want to now how long it wil be before he comes home & this is most more than I can bear." [Original spelling retained.]
