In the letter he describes his company's preparations for a quick departure and expresses fears about the outcome of the war: "I hope we will not be engage in an other battle for I dread those large battle but at the same time if I have to goe [sic] in to one I will do the best I can and I do hope and pray...to the good Lord above to take care of me in that awful day of battle...I feel fearful it will not be as well with me the next time as it was the first but none...know but God how it will terminate I hope I will be spair [sic] to return home safe and unhurt but it really looks to me to be imposible [sic] but nothing is imposible with our Lord Jesus Christ...I am getting so tired of the war one week appears to be as long as a month used to be but still I have to endure." He also mentions that his application to transfer to the Prattville Dragoons was rejected.
