description During the Civil War, Riggs served in Company G of the 27th Mississippi Infantry Regiment. In the letter he discusses his efforts to be transferred to the Prattville Dragoons ("I feel fearful we will make a failure but there will be no harm in trying"); possible upcoming battles under the command of General Bragg; and his feelings about the war: "Oh I do wish we could have peace without any more fighting for I am getting very tired of this war but if we have to fight here this summer I don't care how soon it will commence for I think the sooner we get at it the sooner we will have peace for I think there is good deal depending on the next large battle if we can hold our own this spring I think it will be a good deal in our favor." He also mentions that he has heard from their father, who is also a soldier, and he discusses the cost and availability of food at home and in camp.
