Major campaigns and battles include Belmont and Fort Donelson. Gained command at Fort Donelson when the senior officer fled to avoid capture. Pillow followed suit and relinquished his command to Brigadier General Simon Buckner. He was subsequently reprimanded for his actions and spent the remainder of the war in minor posts.
