After promoting through the grades, Pegram was promoted to brigadier general in November 1862. Major campaigns and battles include Rich Mountain (captured), the Kentucky campaign, Stones River, Chickamauga, the Wilderness (wounded), 1864 Shenandoah campaign, and Petersburg.
