Major campaigns and battles include the West Virginia campaign, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Brandy Station (wounded), and Petersburg. Captured during convalescent leave in 1863 and exchanged in March 1864. After the war, he returned to farming and politics, serving as a U.S. representative.
