When the Confederate Government evacuated Richmond, Virginia, on April 2, 1865, the Confederate Treasury was also removed. Captain George Rives, Company A, 56th Alabama Infantry (mounted) received $25.00 in gold and silver. Eleven Mexican silver dollars were saved by Rives as souvenirs. |
