Description
Summary:Caption on back: Richmond, April 24th, 1867; Washington Monument, Richmond; Caption on back: Washington Monument, Capitol Square, Richmond. This Monument stands in the Grand Avenue which leads to the Executive Mansion. The total height of the structure is 60 feet. The figures are all bronze, and were cast in Amsterdam. Some estimate of their colossal proportions may be made from the fact that the equestrian figure alone weighs 21 tons, and is 19 feet in height. Those of Henry, Mason, and Jefferson are each 12 feet in height. The structure was brought to its present state of completion in 1857. Geo. O.
