Summary:Letters from Charles B. Safford to his wife, Clara Safford, covering his time as a soldier in Company K of the 105th Illinois Infantry, his assignment to the 116th Regiment of the United States Colored Troops (USCT), and his time as captain in command of Company H of the 107th Regiment, USCT. The letters here include three sent from Hospital No. 15, Ward 1, in Nashville, Tennessee, and two from the General Hospital, Lexington, Kentucky, where he was recovering from an injury he sustained during the Atlanta Campaign in May 1864. Seven letters were sent from Camp Distribution, Virginia.
