Summary:Sheldon C. Treat was a Union soldier in the US Civil War with Company E of the Fourth Iowa Infantry. This file includes twenty-one letters he wrote to his family in New England, most of them sent in 1862-1863 during his war service. It also contains a letter from his commanding officer, and a short biographical document. Treat took part in seventeen battles of the US Civil War, including the Battle of Pea Ridge (Arkansas, 1862) and the Battle of Fort Hindman (Arkansas, 1863), and was involved in William Tecumseh Sherman's Savannah Campaign (or March to the Sea) from Atlanta to Savannah, Georgia, in 1864.
