"Incorporated December 17, 1819. Named for Sergeant Michael Moulton hero of Creek Indian War who fell at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend fighting under General Andrew Jackson. Settled by English, Irish and Scotch settlers moving in from the Carolinas and Virginia in early 18th century.”
