Summary: | This old gun at Fort Morgan, Alabama was captured in 1814 from the British disabled Ship 'HERMES' after the bombardment of Fort Morgan by the British. (It bears upon it the ancient insignia of the British Royal Crown placed above the Rose of Tudor, which was the Coat of Arms originating with Henry VII (Henry Tudor) who was crowned King of England in 1485, following the War of the Roses. It was the new Rose of Peace.) Old Hickory was in charge of Fort Morgan at the time and tried, but in vain, to reach the Fort, by boat, from Mobile while the battle was on.
