Summary:Interview of Billy Bancroft on November 14, 1985. Billy Bancroft was a star football, basketball and baseball player at Howard College in the mid-1920s. In the inaugural game of Birmingham's Legion Field, Billy Bancroft led Howard College's football team to victory over rival Birmingham Southern. He later went on to coach at Howard, leading the team in the most famous football game in Samford University history, the 7-7 tie with defending Rose Bowl champion Alabama in 1935. He later would become head coach of Howard College football from 1935-39, as well as the head coach of Howard College basketball from 1934-38. In this interview, Mr. and Mrs. Bancroft discuss their experiences as students at Howard College in the mid-1920s. Mr. Bancroft discusses playing sports at Howard College, his coaching career, and the many student activities he was involved in.
