View of the Houston-Love Memorial Library from West Burdeshaw Street, looking northeast. The building served as the Minnie T. Heard Elementary School then as a satellite campus for the University of Alabama until it became the George S. Houston Library in 1965. In 1983, the library changed its name to Houston-Love Memorial Library in honor of long time director Wayne Love. The building was razed in 2014 after the library moved into a new facility immediately adjacent. The Native American statue was carved by Hungarian emigre Peter Toth as a gift to Dothan and Alabama in 1973. |
