Description
Summary:Gabe Coleman was one of the star football players for Mobile County Training School (MCTS). He played on the 1966/67 state championship football team. During Coleman’s senior year of high school (1967), a recruiting letter was developed by MCTS’s administration, which was intended to get the attention of the University of Alabama’s head football coach Paul “Bear” Bryant. The letter was not successful, as Bryant simply responded with a letter that the south was not ready to recruit black athletes. Coleman went on to receive a football scholarship to Lincoln University where he graduated in 1971. After college, he received a free agent contract to play football with Cincinnati, but later went to Kansas City, Missouri to play semi-professional football.
