Summary: | The Medical College of Alabama -- or what was often called the Mobile Medical College -- was the brain-child of Dr. Josiah Clark Nott, who founded it in 1859. It remained in private hands until 1907, when the University of Alabama was given control of it. It was renamed the University of Alabama Medical School. It underwent another move in the 1930s, when it relocated to its present location in Birmingham.
