Summary: | John Gus Hines (b. 1844) designed and built Mardi Gras floats for several Mobile mystic societies. This is one of a series of float drawings Hines did that commemorated the victorious re-entry of Roman Emperor Aurelian into Rome after his magnificent triumph of putting down rebellion and re-unifying the empire. In this drawing, we see Egyptian captives being brought into the city. The float was designed for the Striker's Independent Society, which still exists but does not parade. |
