Summary: | The Bragg-Mitchell mansion was built in 1855 by Judge John Bragg, the brother of Confederate general Braxton Bragg. Bragg, a circuit court judge and U.S. Congressman, constructed the house for his wife and family. During most of the year the family lived on the Bragg plantation in Lowndes County. But during Mobile's social season, they made use of this home. The last family to live in the Bragg mansion was that of A. S. Mitchell. The house now belongs to the city of Mobile and is frequently used for weddings and other social events. This image was taken around 1935. |
