Description
Summary:Three American Civil War soldiers. The "M.C." on the cap worn by the man in the middle denotes the Mobile Cadets, a militia company formed by young, local Mobile, Alabama, men as early as 1844. The cadets held balls, annual encampments, drills, and marksmanship competitions, all of which were very popular among Mobilians. Members of the cadets also served in the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, and World War I. This image is probably from around 1862 since the epaulettes and cuffs seen here were to disappear from Confederate uniforms after 1863.
