Summary:In order to give children something to do over the summer holidays during the Great Depression, the local paper used to stage a contest that ran from June to September. The paper would print coupons, which children had to collect. The child who collected the most coupons won a pony. Hendon Beckham won the pony in 1932 and posed for this photo with it and the coupons he collected. Beckham would die tragically of pneumonia several years later.
