Summary:A drawing of the "new" Gayfer's Department Store, ca. 1918. Charles J. Gayfer moved to Mobile around 1877 and opened his first dry goods store at 20 N. Joachim. By 1881 he had partnered with A. N. Edmondson and the store had moved to 103 Dauphin. It remained on Dauphin Street until around 1919, when it moved to St. Emanuel. Later it would relocate again, this time to West Mobile, where it would remain until it was bought out by Dillard's.
