The words are from John Gracen Brown's book "A Sojourn of the Spirit and Passages in the Wind". Notations on title page says, "Copyright © 1990 by Carl Vollrath"Vocal, Piano26 pages; 8 1/2 x 11I: The Winter Weather
The winter weather
Has planted its silver plants
Upon the windowpane
II: The Pond
The pond Is glazed with glass
And the morning sun.
III: The Alcoholic
The internal region Pitched against itself Is unable to yield.
Like the Gordian knot Knit by a fable It binds a fate
That seems so little his
IV: The Tall, Majestic Trees
The tall, majestic trees That line the shore
Steal and lift the heart As they sway One into the other.
V: A Greater Good
I sing a song of sadness,
But the sadness has something
Of the good within it
And is of a greater good.
VI: Far Away and Above Me
Far away Over the hill The sun sets;
And above me, The small clouds Have taken on
A purple hue.
VII: Sailing
The wind cups the sails, The mast bends forward
And the boat lifts And skims along.
VIII: The Storm
The storm of meaning swells
When the large summer clouds
Roll up over the river
And the big trees begin to blow.
IX: The Soul
The soul is a soft and gentle thing
And should be treated so. |
