But few trees have been more written about than the live oak, which grows very luxuriantly through the Southern Atlantic States and along the Gulf, reaching a height of from 40 to 60 feet; their spreading branches, measuring as much as 130 feet in diameter, would cover a quarter of an acre of ground and shelter a whole regiment of men.
