| Summary: | Color print of Vestavia which was the estate of former Birmingham mayor George B. Ward. It was situated on the crest of Shades Mountain in what is now the northern edge of the city. Ward's . Two and one-half story mansion was patterned after the circular Temple of Vesta in Rome. It has dark pink sandstone exterior walls encircled by twenty massive columns. Detail architectural designs above columns on both tiers. There are windows in the second story and in a raised part of the roof. House is surrounded by elaborate gardens which include carved hedges, statuary, flowers, tress, and benches. Postmarked Aug. 28, 1943.
