Summary:This item contains correspondence, interview transcripts and notes Byron Woodfin used for his book Lay Down With Dogs: Hugh Otis Bynum and the Scottsboro First Monday Bombing. Biographical/Historical Sketch: Byron Woodfin, born June 25, 1951, in Huntington Beach, California, moved to Pisgah, Alabama in 1969. After teaching at Stevenson High School from 1974-1984, he began work as a journalist for Scottsboro�s Daily Sentinel in 1987. As he reviewed past major stories for the newspaper�s 100th anniversary top ten stories list, he became interested in the Hugh Otis Bynum, Jr. bombing trial from the 1970s. Woodfin began researching the trial and his research culminated with the publication of Lay Down with Dogs: Hugh Otis Bynum and the Scottsboro First Monday Bombing by the University of Alabama Press in 1997.
