Summary:Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands reviewed labor contract between landowners and Montgomery County, Alabama freedmen. This record has been transcribed as follows: Contract for labour between F.M.J. Tankersley & Jordan Stuart for the year 1868[.] I[,] F.M.J. Tankersley obligate and bind myself to pay said Jordan Stuart ten dollars per month & furnish him with rations of baens[sic] and corne[sic] meal & medical attendance when necessary & said Stuart is to furnish his own clothes & pay for all medical attendance himself & further binds[?] himself to do good & faithful labor for said Tankersley each day during the year of 1868 (Sundays excepted from Field Labor) obeying all orders made by said Tankersley or any other person for him[,] doing any & all sorts of work that he may be ordered to do. The 1st day of January 1869. I [,] Jordan Stuart [,] agree to bind myself to all these obligations & agree [?] to observe strictly & be governed by the rules and regulations of the plantation regulating [regarding] labor. Rules & Regulations all loss of time[?] from labor will be charged to the laborer also any damage to stock, implements or tools for riotous or disorderly conduct on the part of the laborer subjects him to be discharged at the opinion[?] of the employer This January 20, 1868 J.J.
