This record has been transcribed as follows: Office-Sub Assistant Commission Bureau Refugees, Freeman and Abandon Lands Sub-District of Montgomery Montgomery, Ala., Jan. 8 1868 State of Alabama Montgomery Co Articles of agreement entered into this day between T.A. Cauderfel on the first part and freedmen who have subscribed to this agreement of the 2nd park T.A. Cauderfel of the first part agrees to furnish salaries to those who labor at the rate of three lbs, of meat and one peek of meal per week and also to give one fourth of the lean cotton and potatoes to all good hands raised on the land cultivated by the said hands, T.A. Cauderfel further agrees to furnish houses to live in, and see that their Doctors bill is paid at their expense. The freedmen or laborers are to furnish their own clothing at their expense, and the laborers pay their own tax and to work public roads, the above named hands further agree to labor faithfully from sunrise to sunset/ time to rest at noon to be left ( is the time customary throughout the country)to the option of T.A. Caudelfel of the first part the afore named hands agree to comply with all orders given by T.A. Caudelfel or his agents or superintendents, any laborers failing to comply with the above will forfeit any claims against T.A. Cauderfel or his agents, all lost time by the hands they will forfeit fifty (50) cents per day. Stock must be attended to on Sundays- the same as on other days by each hand in turn, all hands absent from labor shall be charged in p[?] to the time lost at the same rate as other lost time Lost time to be divided the same as the crop WITNESS T.A.
