Articles of agreement between colored labouers and myself on my plantation for the year 1868
We the colored labourers on F. Raouls plantation hearby agree and contract to labour faithfully and diligently during the present year performing all necessary plantation duties such and obeying all orders cheerfully and agreeing to be governed by all the rules and regulation of the plantation, The hands to be divided into squards and the lands to be parceled out to each squad as equally and justly as circumstances will admit[?] Each squad shall have a head and in case any hand or hands shall conduct himself or themselves in such a manner as to make it necessary to discharge him or her the power to discharge shall forfeit all right, title, and interest in said plantation for consideration of the faithful performance on the part of the labourers to the above F. Raoul agree to give to said labourers one third of all the cotton, corn, and fodder raised on the plantation during the year �68 to have them in possession[?] of their own garden spots houses fre of rent and fuel[?] our charge. Also a piece of land not exceeding one acre to full hands, � acre to half hands and � acre to quarter hands. The land given to be pointed out and designated by myself The hands are to have 3 � of good bacon and Pork per week one half of which they are expected to pay for at the end of the year. They also to head[?] themselves In case I may have to furnish corn to those who do not have any they will be charged the average market price of the corn at the end of the year. [damaged] percent quantity of cotton must be [damaged] remain in my hands to pay for one half the meat consumed on the plantation also bagging and rope in which their cotton packed and all other advances made by me to them
