This record has been transcribed as follows: CONTRACT FOR LABOR STATE OF ALABAMA COUNTY of Montgomery Between Jno [John] T Robinson, and the undersigned colored laborers, WITNESSETH, that I, Jno T Robinson, obligate myself to give the undersigned colored laborers, one fourth of the cotton; one fourth of the corn; one fourth of the fodder; and one fourth of all other produced raised on my plantation; and to furnish said laborers with one 60 acres of land, (2) mules & feed for mules & everything necessary to make a crop and two hundred twenty five (225) pounds of good pork or bacon; and [blank] of corn meal, each, per week, until the first day of January, 1869 everything[?] they to pay for at [?] at the end of the year at market price and of their 1/3 of the crops For and in consideration of the above, We, the undersigned colored laborers, obligate ourselves to labor faithfully for Jno T Robinson each day, from sunrise until sunset Sunday excepted, until the first day of January, 1869, working according to, and obeying all reasonable orders given by the employer or his agent. We also obligate ourselves to pay [blank] per day, for all time lost by us, and to observe and be governed by the general rules and regulations of the plantation. Thus[?] and in consideration of the above I the undersigned name obligate myself to give to Chas Orun one (1) bale of cotton and one (1) hundred bushels of corn and to give to said Orun one half of the fodder that is made and also obligated to pay said Orun the value of the rations consumed by us at the end of the year and to return all implements used by us in as good order as when received. Chas Orun Kinch Hall Mark The employers agree to furnish one-hundred and sixty acres of land more or less of which one-hundred are to be planted in cotton and sixty in corn. Five mules and feed for some farming utensils and repairs for same necessary to cultivate the crop. One acre of land for such laborers free of charge also house room and fire-wood. The laborers agree to feed themselves to cultivate the crop in such manner as to compare favorably with the crops of the neighborhood. Also a potato patch of two acres more or less. For the exclusive benefit of the employees. For and in consideration of a faithful compliance with the above contract the laborers shall receive one-third of the of the[sic] crop of proceeds[sic] corn, fodder, peas and cotton made and gathered on the land cultivated by them. It is furthermore understood and agreed by both the employers and laborers that the employers are authorized to give a lien on the entire crop for the purpose of procuring[?] supplies and *received by us* advances necessary to carry on said plantation[sic] *one hundred and sixty acres of land*, it is also understood and agreed that should a laborer leave before the crop is gathered he or she shall forfeit all interest in the crop.
