Summary:Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands reviewed labor contract between landowners and Montgomery County, Alabama freedmen. This record has been transcribed as follows: A contract for labor between F. J. M. Tankersly and Lewis Richardson & his wife Frances Richardson[.] Said Tankersley obligates himself to pay Frances Richardson one hundred and forty four dollars for her services and firstrate cook from the 25th day of Dec 1867 to the 5th day of Dec 1868[.] Also to have medical attention when necessary which she for her self[sic] & saves Frances Richardson obligates herself to labor faithfully for said Tankersley each day until the 5th day of Dec 1868 observing all orders made by said Tankersley or any other person for him also to pay her own clothes bill and furnish her own clothes and make goods all lost time and any riotous or disorderly conduct of the part of said Frances subjects her to be discharged on the opinion[?] of the said Tankersley[.] This Dec 30th 1867 said Frances is hired from her said husband Lewis by and with her consent in her presents[?] as a first rate cook washer & ironer also milker and personal house servant Attest F.
