Summary:R. A. Mitchell Elementary School on Noccalula Road in Gadsden, Ala. Reuben Alexander (R. A.) Mitchell was Mayor of Gadsden from 1895-1896 and 1897 and was a senior vice-president of the Alabama Power Company. In 1929, he purchased the 250 acres that would become Noccalula Falls Park. His family held the property 15 years after his death until the City of Gadsden could afford to purchase it and create the Park. R. A. Mitchell Elementary School is named in his honor.
