Round Mountain Furnace near Leesburg, Ala.
Man and woman sitting at Round Mountain Furnace near Leesburg, Ala. Round Mountain Furnace was constructed in 1849 and in its first year produced 2 1/2 tons of iron for kettles, skillets and foundry products. The ore was taken from the side of the mountain. The plant was permanently closed in 1906.
