Summary:Photo of the bay boat steamboat the Apollo. Owned by the John A. Welch Boat Line, also called the Fairhope Transportation Company, the Apollo arrived in Fairhope in summer of 1912. She was a big side-wheel steamer, 150 ft. long with a beam of 25 ft. with an over 400 horsepower engine. She could carry 500 passengers and travel at nearly 14 miles an hour. The Apollo transported passengers from the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay to Mobile, Alabama.
