A September 28, 1859 runaway slave notice by William H. Edrington of Milligen's Bend, Louisiana, for his runaway slave, a "negro man, Stephen, about 26 years of age, heavy set, about 5 feet 5 inches high, with very broad front Teeth, which do not touch each other. He is rather slow in address when spoken to, & will weigh about 160 pounds. Said boy was purchased of Col Hough, near Florence, Ala., and is no doubt Harbored by some person in the neighborhood of said Hough." Stephen ran away "some Two Years ago" and Edrington offered a $100 reward for Stephen's capture and a $100 reward for information leading to the conviction of the person or persons harboring the him. |
