Summary: | Florence historian Lee Freeman notes: "Photo Reuben Patterson (1836-1928), an unnamed ex-Confederate, and Mrs. Ludie Patton of Sweetwater, in Florence, AL, at a United Confederate Veterans Reunion in the 1920s. Reuben had served as body-servant to Col. Josiah Patterson (1836-1904) of the 5th AL Cav, CSA. Reuben was the 5th AL's company bugler, forager and unofficial "horse-swapper." Reuben religiously attended UVC reunions and was said to be 'perhaps the most unreconsctructed 'rebel' in this section of the South.' " |
