Summary:A Wednesday, June 18, 1873 *Florence Times-Journal* report of an altercation between black residents Nat Vaughan and Jim Buckingham which resulted in both men suffering "the usual penalty," meaning they were fined and released. Jim Buckingham may be the James "Jim" Buckingham (1846-1915) who was a farmer and former cook in Co K, 7th AL Inf, CSA and who attended some United Confederate Veterans reunions after the war. This Jim Buckingham married Susan Foster in 1866 and they had a total of 7 children, 3 still living by 1900.
