Summary:A series of Florence Herald reports of crimes, arrests, and trials involving Shoals area (Colbert, Lauderdale, Franklin Counties) African-Americans from the 1920s. Founded in 1886 as the bi-weekly Florence Wave, by 1920 one of two papers published in Florence, in 1920 JC Smith was the publisher. Every effort has been made to identify all of the crime reports/notices in the Herald from the 1920s involving African-Americans however some may have been inadvertently missed. The paper published follow-up articles on some of these cases, which were also included if found. All of the articles are listed in chronological order.
