A Friday, March 26, 1920 Florence Times report of a police sting at Nitrate Plant No. 2, in which a gang of thieves consisting of two white men and thirty or forty African-Americans was shut down by Capt. CH Keck and Chief of Police Watson of the Nitrate Plant No. 2 police force. One of the two whites arrested had already been indicted by a federal grand jury while twelve or fifteen of the African-Americans arrested were being held in the Lauderdale County jail, the rest having made bond. Approximately $2,500 of Nitrate Plant property was allegedly stolen by gang members from the plants warehouses. |
