Description
Summary:An April 1, 1920 Florence Herald report of the shooting "the first of the week" of African-American resident of Rogersville, in East Lauderdale County, Batey Cunningham (1893-), by his unnamed wife. The paper noted that public sentiment seemed to be with Mrs. Cunningham. No further records to date have been uncovered on Batey or Mrs. Cunningham, save his June 5, 1917 draft registration card, which gave his birth-date as 1893, his status as married, his physical description as "short" and "stout" with brown eyes, and his employer in 1917 as R. L. Barnett of the Rogersville beat.
