Description
Summary:An August 30, 1890 Florence Herald report of cases before Florence Justices of the Peace Henry D. Smith and Col. Jackson, including Roxana Seawright, convicted of "using abusive and insulting language," and fined $9.85 by Esq. Smith. Normally blacks were noted with a (c) or as "colored" indicating their race, but in this case it appears not, as all the known members of the Seawright family were African-American. Also, black resident Claiborne Barnes was fined $10 for assaulting fellow-black resident Jim Stewart.
