Summary: | The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) started in 1933 and helped to bring electricity to the Shoals area. The TVA also converted nitrate producing facilities built during World War I and World War II to produce synthetic fertilizer. Through the test demonstration program, TVA distributed fertilizer to local farmers, who demonstrated the benefits of the fertilizer to their neighbors. The program helped the area's farmers replenish the soil in their fields and to yield more productive harvests. |
