spelling Portrait of William David Staples, Jr., circa 1929 1Russell Brothers StudioWilliam David Staples, Jr. (1912-1992) was a native of Anniston, Alabama and longtime resident of Jacksonville, Alabama. He attended the United States Naval Institute in Maryland and served in the US Navy and Navy Reserves. He worked as a veterinarian in Mississippi and Jacksonville, Alabama and later as a biology professor at Jacksonville State Teachers College (later Jacksonville State University). The uniform in this portrait is believed to be from the Alabama Military Institute, from which Staples graduated in 1929. He also attended Marion Military Institute, so the uniform could possibly represent that institution.1929-01-01T08:00:00Ztextimage/jpeghttps://digitalcommons.jsu.edu/lib-ac-histimg/46222https://digitalcommons.jsu.edu/context/lib-ac-histimg/article/47221/type/native/viewcontent/50521.jpgThis image was digitized and access generously provided by Anniston-Calhoun County Public Library, which holds the original Russell Brothers glass negatives.
