Summary: | Captain William Mark Hames was president of the board of directors of the State Normal School for the first 18 years, 1883-1901. A lawyer, he was Captain of Company A, Second Alabama Regiment, in the War Between the States (1861-1865). Hames was also Worshipful Master in Hiram Lodge No. 42 F. & A.M., Jacksonville, Alabama.
