| Summary: | Box 1 Folder 35: "This is box number 1, number 35. Radio logs from February 23, April 27th, April 28th and April 29th of 1947. Which now shows five radio stations in the market WTNB being the new addition from 1490. Does not appear that they were carrying black programming; however, we do see that WJLD, this is a Sunday listing, that WJLD has numerous black programming at this time. Sunday programming includes the Kelley Choral Singers, the Blevins Aggregation, the Big Three Singers, the Shelby County Four, the Poole Singers. It’s interesting because they are mixed in with mystery broadcasting which is national in nature like The Shadow and detective mysteries, Nick Carter Master Detective; I listened to all of these when I was a kid. The Tuesday April 29th log shows the Heavenly Gospel Four (possibly Don Solomon's group) surrounded by the Atomic Boogie Hour. The Atomic Boogie Hour is certainly playing Black artists and here we see a gospel group during the week. Later on in the evening St. Peter’s Church which would be W.A. Clark so WJLD certainly leading at this point in terms of black programming of the stations that were on the air at the time, although any Black programming at this point was only on Sundays."
