This image is a watercolor conceptual painting of a old English gable end done by an unknown student sometime between 1917 and 1942. The painting shows the gable as part of a wooden building with its door, windows, moldings, steps, stone chimneys, and sloped roof with statues on the peaks surrounded by trees and landscaping. The path up to the building is lined with pots of flowers. The painting is set within framing art which contains wood carvings, a coat of arms, and a griffin. In the lower right corner the artist's signature has been torn away except for the first four letters "Prat". Above what's left of the signature, there is also an Alabama Polytechnic Institute School of Architecture stamp, the handwritten inscription "2nd Medal" in red, and a silver star. The painting is in poor condition with the entire upper left third torn away, large chunks taken out of the edges, and a long vertical tear and is encapsulated. |
