This image is a watercolor conceptual painting of a Greek temple done by James E. Wood sometime between 1917 and 1942. The painting shows a front view of the temple with its columned porch, doors, moldings, painted stone carvings, steps, and partially sloped roof surrounded by trees, landscaping, and mountains. The painting is set within framing art which shows details of the columns,a side view of the temple, a floor plan, a statue and a vase. In the upper left corner are two labels which read: "School of Architecture, Architectural Renderings, RG 457, Original Number 82, 'A Circular Greek Temple'" and "82." In the lower right corner there is an artist's information block which reads: "James E. Wood, Ala. Poly. Inst. Class A&B Archaeology, 'A Circular Greek Temple.'" Above the block there is an Alabama Polytechnic Institute School of Architecture stamp, the handwritten inscription "2nd Medal" in red, and a red star. The painting is in fair condition with minor tears and edge wear and is encapsulated. |
